Mara Sola

Mara Sola , visual artist. Born in Altea, Alicante (1975), residing in Stavanger, Norway, since 2012 

Her artistic practice is imbued with the notion of alienation and the feeling of not belonging to any particular place. Her curiosity about other places and cultures has forged a nomadic mind, where the unknown becomes a source of learning and inspiration. New environments and situations have challenged Sola with questions about different levels of consciousness and the construction of the self. Sola finds answers in Environmental and Transpersonal Psychology by Carl G. Jung and others, offering more contemporary perspectives to understand the human psyche. Although she uses various forms of expression, painting is her main medium. With her pieces, Sola immerses us in a shy and melancholic mood, revealing a quiet adaptation and understanding of inner and dreamlike worlds, where the boundaries between the real and the surreal become ambiguous. 

The landscape, the organic, the visceral, the natural are some of the elements that, through the intentional use of materials and color, lead us to poetic contemplation, evoking common feelings of human consciousness. Mara Sola invites us to question and explore our own relationship with the world around us.
