_______
Katharina Bjelland is a German artist based in Stavanger, Norway. Bjelland`s artistic method is grounded in working with found materials, text, print and sculpture, finding her inspiration in everyday objects and situations. Bjelland investigates perception and consumption as an incentive and a reward and comments on desire and middle-class aspiration in materialism. By deconstructing single-use packaging, brand names, brand identities and slogans Bjelland sheds light on our daily choices through how we constantly optimize our achievements related to ourselves, our family and our social lives. At the core of her practice is an investigation into the daily struggle of balancing work, domestic labor and leisure with the underlying pressure of trying to raise our standard of living, to be able to consume more and more. Bjelland explores the interconnected aspects of work, economic freedom, and social hierarchy. Her practice is an ongoing investigation into the in-house division of domestic labor in relation to individual needs, societal convention, and power structures within a household.
Bjelland graduated from Kunstskolen i Stavanger in 2021. She also holds a Master`s degree in business administration from Germany and has lived in London and Shanghai before moving to Stavanger.
